Hello there!
Im abit bored at work with not much to do so ill share with you how to play irelia successfully. Its my main character mostly since its such a fun champion and if played/built correctly it has a high potential.
What spells to max first is nothing to even talk about. You max W for the sustain and trades. After that E to get a longer stun. But start with E lvl one and then continue taking W lvl 2, Q lvl 3 and after that full out on W until lvl 10 where u start skilling E higher.
Theres 2 starting options. Either you start with cloth armor+ 5 pots if your against some high poke like teemo or Kayle for example.
Or you start with boots+4 pots (waiting for the fourth abit outside of the base towards top lane. The second option is the one i use towards 90% of all champions top lane.
Gameplay (laning Phase)
Try to hit lvl 2 before the one your up against. For this you have to sometimes hit more then just lasthits, not really push but just hit some to make sure you get to lvl 2 before you oponent and if you do you stun him with E asap and activate your W and just autohit as much as possible, if they go down just end them with ignite. In case you DONT take lvl 2 before your oponent just play safe and farm, since irelia is good at farming under the tower you will if played correctly, win in CS.
Some 'advanced' gameplay tips:
1: In the laning phase you should just last hit mostly but if you see that your oponent is recalling or you just know that he will go to the base push it as much as possible, use all your skills to push as fast as possible including your ultimate. Just to make his tower kill the creepwave instead of him and by that denying him expecience and gold.
2: When trading with irelia its important to only fight when you have your W activated and then backing off. If its even you will win the trades by doing so. Your oponents ranged minions will be close to him, so if you dont want to waste ur Q by going to him you should hit one of the range creeps down to low hp so you can use ur Q on the minion close to him, Activate your W, using E to slow/stun and keep hitting until he escapes and then using Q to catch up to him again. If he escapes and you cant slow him, use ur Q to charge to him and make sure that you use an auto attack after using Q for some extra damage.
3: Your W spell does true dmg per hit wich means that your Q does extra dmg when W is activated. So when you trade use your Q the last thing u do before your W runs out and then back off.
Lategame gameplay
Since irelia has her charge with the Q shes a very good gapcloser. And combining that with the items and true damage from W you should go after targets with low HP, their AD carry or AP carry depending whos the most fed one. If they are both useless try to protect your own carrys while shutting down their assasin. Try to proc off trinity force as much as possible, use 1 ult-auto hit-use 2nd-auto- etc. If your fed you can do pretty much whatever you want with irelia but if you get cced your still kinda squishy if you cant heal with your ultimate or autohits.
Items
When you go back for the first time, buy one or two dorians blades for some early damage, HP, and some extra sustain with the 6% lifesteal. If your loosing buy ninja tabi+one dorians blade instead of 2 dorians. If your up vs a AP champ like vlad, get the 24 MR part from merch treads+dorians. In addition get 2 hp pots and a ward if you can afford it. If not then you have to play defensive in the next period of laning until you go back.
Get recurve bow and heart of gold. Upgrade it into wits end and start building tri force for Phage first, sheen second and the whole trinity force 3rd. Get guardian angel if your abit more fed then usual, if not then upgrade your heart of gold into randuims omen before buying guardian angel as your fifth item. 95% of the games you wont afford to buy the last item before the game is ended. But if you do buy what your missing. If your tanky enough and just wants to hit really hard, get an infinitys edge. If your lacking Magic resist grab a Force of nature. If you feel that your tanky and just need abit more sustain and damage in the fights grab a blood thirster. If you just need some more HP cause they have olaf doing hard true damage get a Warmog's Armor.
Items Listed
Early: Ninja tabi/mechery treads. 2 Dorian's Blade. Recurve bow and Heart of gold.
Mid game: Wits end, and trinity force. (phage first)
Late game: Randuims Omen, Guardian Angel.
Optional last item. Infinitys edge, Force Of Nature, Bloodthrister, Warmogs armor.
Done build:
Ninja Tabi
Wits End
Trinity Force
Guardian Angel
Randuims Omen
Bloodthirster/IE/FON/warmogs armor.
Summoner spells:
Flash+ignite 99% of all games. Sometimes changing ignite into exhaust might be a good choice if you dont have one in the team.
Im sorry this build might lack structure but i did this pretty fast. If you have any questions about playing irelia please ask whatever you want here in the forum, such as counterpicks vs irelia etc.
Hope this helped you out abit, please comment what you though about it!

Does Ninja Tabi Work Against True Dmg 2
- “A Ninja’s best weapon is his foot, protect with the Shinobi Ninja Shoes!” SHINOBI NINJA TABI SHOES The word of the day, Proprioception. By increasing proprioception the Martial Artist increases their balance, strength, and quickness. This is why most martial artists train barefoot, however now there is an alternative, the Shinobi Ninja.
- We're testing a new feature that gives the option to view discussion comments in chronological order. Some testers have pointed out situations in which they feel a linear view could be helpful, so we'd like see how you guys make use of it.
Does Ninja Tabi Work Against True Dmg 3
Just a random imput.
Try Xin Zhao with On-hit items(Wit's End, Ionic Spark and so on).
It gives both offense and defense. Is fairly cheap. It synergizes just as much as tanky-AD builds with his skills(only Q scales somewhat with AD, but it scales just as much with on-hit).
Works best if you have a physical solo top and good AD carry, as it helps spread the enemies resistances around a bit.
On topic. I belive the difference between the new and the old Ninja tabi's damage reducion will be roughly equal, if you spread out their effect over 100 or 1000 games.
Also, because of the old dodge synergy you could get from certain champions(Jax, Udyr), it would be much stronger than it is now.
Ninja Tabi is a choice. It does reduce the impact of AD carries a bit, but have absolutely no effect on Magic damage or CC. It does not give you added offesive power. It's movementspeed buff is the same or less than other boots. So they work well against some types and less or not at all against others. That is the choice when picking boots.
